I know the Fifty Shades of Grey trailer is all over the internet, but perhaps we can do better.
I just found this: an Australian movie called ‘My Mistress‘.
From IMDB:
What starts as a beautiful and strangely innocent affair between a vulnerable teenage romantic and a French S&M mistress soon becomes more dangerous.
It’s a long hot summer for Charlie Boyd. He’s sixteen, his hormones are raging and he’s just found out his mother is having an affair with his father’s best friend. One thing takes his mind off his problems, the mysterious woman down the street who has visitors day and night, and has just advertised for a gardener. But she is forgotten when a tragic family event tumbles Charlie into a world of pain, a pain so intense Charlie thinks no-one can help him. He’s wrong. Someone can. Maggie, the beautiful French stranger. She’s a professional, and she specialises in pain. Giving it, exploring it, sharing it, all for money. So Charlie falls in love, and despite herself so does she, drawn to this troubled boy who takes all the pain she can give and uses it to heal himself. And as Charlie heals, he turns that healing back onto her, his Mistress.
I really hope it’s not all terribly damaged one dimensional people in dysfunctional relationships (it seems a bit like that to me) but to say I’m intrigued would be an understatement.
It premières here in mid August. I’m so very curious about it!

Oh man – the kid is 16. The Puritans here in the US will have a field day hating on this.
Ha! No doubt!
I didn’t even think of that in my ‘how are the characters portrayed’ hand wringing.

Gadzooks! Emmaenuelle Beart as the Mistress, too. One of my all time fave actresses. A must-see!
Geeesh ……………….
why could they have not used a sheltered 18 year old???????????? Tragic that so much promise will be overshadowed by the use of an underage child.
Yes child……
I hate that the beautiful will be scarred with this scandalous bullshit over a few years……… it could have been a beginning……….
Your link was a bit rubbish and didn’t open for me, Miss Ferns. However, it can be seen here:

Huh weird: thanks for pointing it out. I changed it.

@Jewels;
Yes, I have to say the use of a sixteen year old was a bad move. I see few problems in the UK, but many more in the USA.
More broadly, though: it feels like a bit of a cop-out that she’s so much older. It’s as though the suggestion is that a woman can only dominate a boy, not a grown man.
Still, the whole F/m thing’s move into the mainstream has to start somewhere.
I don’t care. It’s Emmanuelle Beart!
@SirPup:
I agree that both create various issues in terms of F/m and BDSM representation (as well as film distribution).
*smile* I don’t know Emmanuelle Beart, but obviously she has made a big impression on you! I shall have to ask google about her.

Sir Pup –
Summer of ’42 had a youngster – but no kinky sex. I was in Jr High when it came out, and I remember the talk at the time.

Ah, thanks Tom. That does indeed look interesting. It seems to dwell on how the D/s develops … great stuff: that’s what I’m looking for.
@Jewels: I’m not sure why they had to mention his age at all. It’s pretty clear that he’s young.
I was just going to point to Verfolgt / Punish Me / Hounded
in which the male submissive was obviously very young also (and so so beautiful), and that I didn’t recall his age ever being mentioned. Then I looked at the synopsis: HE WAS 16 ALSO!

It looks awful I have to say Ferns she is a twue Domme as per stereotypes he a poor naive lad etc etc etc excuse me while I retch

She is a pro, so yes, stereotypical presentation there for sure (also for marketing no doubt), but I’m *hoping* that they have done some unpacking of her as a real person (though I fear they have done it as ‘damaged person underneath’ from the way they talk about it).

Oh dear. I’m too annoyed to choose my words well. Quite simply, I just really, really hate the whole “SM as a means of healing damaged people” crap.
I know, right?!
The link between BDSM and psychological problems being the cause or S&M being the cure is troubling, though given the choice, I’d prefer the latter over the former any day.
I am hoping they have given it a bit more of a sophisticated treatment than the synopsis suggests. I’ll report back once I get my hands on it.

I dunno though there’s a lot to be said for a clip around the ear as a form of therapy…
I always feel better for delivering it anyway

Oh la la.. I wish I were in Australia! I’d love to see how it turns out (:
I’m just hoping it gets wider distribution than the Melbourne International Film Festival. I guess we’ll see soon enough.

Certainly looking forward to that a lot more than I am 50 Shades. I know that the book is supposed to be totally hot but it left me cold…but then I suppose as a Domme I am not really the demographic it is aimed at.
I read some of 50 Shades just so that I at least had something to base an opinion on.
I understand why the masses thought it was hot: It struck me as essentially a Mills & Boon bodice-ripper romance with a lot more explicit sex all wrapped up in an ‘acceptable’ package so that your average reader could buy it and not be ashamed. I think for the average woman (whatever that is), it’s very ‘naughty’, but not enough to be bad-filthy-perverted-ewww.
But yes, F/m folks aren’t the target audience for it at all.

Please keep us updated, once you’ve seen it. It certainly is intriguing… although I echo others in that I’d prefer the male to be grown and the whole healing reference thing is annoying. Potential though…
I’ve a feeling I’ll watch 50 Shades like passing a car accident… We’ll get one right eventually!
If I can get my hands on it, I will let you know for sure!
