Emperor’s new clothes

I’m not naked! I have a new outfit on… see, see?!

It is home made, and constructed out of tissue paper and crimpolene, and scares the hell out of me.

I moved the blog when you weren’t looking, with the long suffering help of the wonderfully smart PhoenixFox on Fetlife who kindly volunteered to interpret my blatherings and sort me out (a million more thank yous!!).  PhoenixFox runs a business doing this sort of thing, so plug plug…

While I’m crediting people, I am still finalising the header at the top of the home page, but the fabulous photo of the cuffs is by Gabrielsix27 who kindly let me use it. You can see the full photo on his profile, so give him some love if you like it.

I am still figuring out how things work over here in WordPressLand (are there rides? is there fairy floss?!), so there will be things that might not work for a while (links, maybe… you know, stuff…). Please feel free to point them out by yelling, “The sky is falling, the sky is falling!!”

But I’m still here, and didn’t sleep last night for worrying about you (yes, I mean you, and no, I’m not kidding… bed at 3am, awake at 6am… ugh…).

Please wait…

  1. You have a wonderful new outfit and suits you well. You need not have stayed up worrying about us either because even if the sky *had* fallen, we would have tracked you down anyway… Kinda scary when you think about it yes?

Thank you *swishes dramatically*!! And how lovely to have you be the first to test comments!!

“…even if the sky *had* fallen, we would have tracked you down anyway…”

      Sweet/scary… it’s a fine line…

    1. Thanks Stabbity! It went surprisingly well, given how much I know about how it all works (always seems simple when my friend Google insists it’s just ‘5 easy steps!’).

(and ooh, look… I don’t have to specifically quote you… poshness and luxury! *swans about*)

    1. It is, I washed everything yesterday. Smells like sunshine and light!

(I must work out how to make these avatar box things something useful… I like seeing people’s avatars… hmmm… *adds to the ‘to do’ list*

  2. Wow! It’s certainly different, feels kinda sanitary. Colors! There should be colors! *grin*

    I’m loving the fonts though!

    1. Jake: I know, big change.

      “Colors! There should be colors!”

I will do some finger painting on the walls for you!

    1. Savoir_Faire: Thank you… me too!!

That Jake fellow just doesn’t have our sophisticated taste in classic blog attire… *haughty sniff*

  3. @Ferns,
I’m ashamed to say, but that took me a LONG time to get. Age-ism I see!

It’s just that the old blog was more colorful, this seems more cold and clinical due to the lack of colors.

    1. Jake: “I’m ashamed to say, but that took me a LONG time to get. Age-ism I see!”

*laugh* I am not quite sure what there was to get, other than silliness. And sophistication is not relate to age, dahling!

“It’s just that the old blog was more colorful, this seems more cold and clinical due to the lack of colors.”

I know what you mean. It’s a big change. My original blog was black, so going to the white and green was a shocker!

    2. Oh, I just realised you thought the finger painting comment was ageist, but if *I’m* doing the fingerpainting… well, then…

      Anyway, it wasn’t my intent.

  4. The sky is … no, not really, just a small usability issue: The location of the comments function on top of the post is rather impractical, since you always have to scroll up again if you want to comment. It’s just unusual and an itsy bit impractical. (I do this kind of thing for a living ;) )
And you now have to fill out two forms (name and email), which is slightly annoying to us lazy people. ;D
Other than that, I like it much better than the old one. The swirls and green just weren’t my thing, but this clean new look is nice on the eyes. :)

That is a really great point, thank you! Now whether I am skilled enough to do something about it remains to be seen (oh, who am I kidding, I’m sooo not!). I will obsessively try now, though.

“And you now have to fill out two forms (name and email), which is slightly annoying to us lazy people.”

Agreed, and I even figured out how to fix it! Yay, an easy one (I think… if anyone else wants to test it, that would be great).

Thank you so much for the input (I’ll expect the consultancy fee to land in my inbox anytime…).

“I like it much better than the old one.”

      Me too! New digs!

  5. Everything is different. All at once.I don’t know if I can handle this much change.

I’m going to go lie down for a while.

Aaah! where’s the preview button? If there’s no preview button how can I check to see if I made any mistokes?

    1. Peroxide: “I’m going to go lie down for a while.”

I know! It’s scary. I’ll make you some lovely herbal tea (and pronounce it ‘erbal’ so you’ll be so annoyed that you will forget all about the scary stuff).

“Aaah! where’s the preview button? If there’s no preview button how can I check to see if I made any mistokes?”

      *laugh* Brilliant!

Ask and ye shall receive, maybe, if I think it’s a good idea…

      I’m good to you!

  6. Adminy help question:

If anyone has me in their feed, I’d appreciate knowing if the feed is still working (and what the feed address is).

I would like to feed you, really I would, but I’m not sure if I can…

    Ferns

    1. Ferns said… “…I would like to feed you, really I would, but I’m not sure if I can…”

      Well at last.

This is something that I do know about.

      Here is my suggestion.

      I could murder some cake.

If you are baking, chocolate cake is my favourite.

    1. *laugh* Smug bastard!!

Now that you are over here defiling my pristine new place with your smugness, make yourself useful and tell me what comments plug-in you are using. If I can’t reformat this one to my satisfaction, I might switch.

      Ferns

      1. I use the free WordPress blogging platform, so there’s no added plugin.

Elsewhere, I have a self-hosted WordPress blog like this, and there are a range of comment plugins available.

        You might consider:
        WP Ajax Edit Comments
        Editable Comments
Disqus Comment System (Needs people to set up a Disqus account)

I’m guessing that the advanced database features won’t mean much to you, yourself. The only *real* advantage that these will offer to you is that your huge sea of admirers will be able to edit their own comments.

What kind of format were you thinking about?
(Feel free to take this offline, if you think everyone else will be bored by this discussion).

      2. Thanks Tom.

I want something like what I have, but structured so that each comment takes up less space (i.e with avatar, but smaller than the current, with the RHS of the comment box being bigger). I have tweaked it quite a bit already, so might be able to get there yet.

If I get annoyed enough, I will give you a hoy.

  7. Dear Mistress Ferns:
Perhaps it got lost in cyberspace. I only saw this new blog of yours on the 24th, perhaps I did something wrong when posting it. Thank you for confirming that my comments are getting through.

*gives your small left pinky finger a gentle kiss, leaving you brat cooties*

Congratulations on your new relationship and your new blog. :)

    Clarence

    1. Perhaps you hit the “reply” button on the lower corner of the preview, instead of the “post comment” which is what I did, before wondering what I had said that got my comment deleted.

    2. Clarence: “…perhaps I did something wrong when posting it.”

Yes, you have to take off all your clothes, jump three times, and turn in a circle, anti-clockwise. There’s your mistake… turned the wrong way didn’t you?

“Congratulations on your new relationship and your new blog.”

Thank you, though ‘relationship’ is a bit strong at this stage… more ‘potential relationship’…

      *shakes off brat cooties* Eeuuuwww!

      Ferns

  8. Hee hee hee.
    My brat cooties got her.
*Doesn’t buy Ms Ferns turn in a circle advice. I know that you have to walk in a hexagonal pattern! Also knows she just wants to see me naked but I’m a modest man*
Wishes the Ferns all the best.
